On 12 March 2003, Kazakh rider Andrei Kivilev died from a head injury after a fall on the second stage of Paris-Nice. He lived in Nice and trained on the local roads, and in 2006 the cycling club Stade Laurentin Cyclisme decided to dedicate their annual cyclosportive to his memory.

Because of the connection to the professional peleton, it’s not unusual to see a number of professional riders joining the sportive.

The route heads directly north out of Nice and then west via some interesting villages to the area around Roquesteron.
