With “only” 150m of height gain over its 4km length, the Poggio has to be one of the most famous short climbs in the world because it is of course the final, and often decisive climb in the spring classic “La Primavera” Milan – San Remo. It is the longest single-day professional bike race at 298km, and known as the “sprinters’ classic”, although there have been many famous escapes on the Poggio which have spoiled the day for the sprinters.
