This is one of those climbs which does not look much on paper, but which deserves a lot more respect than it is often given.
The village of Lantosque
Leaving the Vésubie valley at Lantosque, the road clings to the edge of the hillside, climbing a little over 200m to the village of Loda. Unless you’ve done your homework, you might be tempted to think you’ve cracked it, until you then start descending and losing about half the height you’ve just gained! So with a rather dispiriting feeling of starting from scratch, you then climb another 500m to the Col, but it’s a picturesque 500m, mainly through woodland, and with great views across the valley.
