Cycling Holidays In The South Of France – Where The Alps Meet The Mediterranean

Welcome (back!) to the Côte d’Azur

We look forward to welcoming you to the Côte d’Azur in 2021 for a cycling adventure to remember.

Lockdown is a strange time here, as everywhere…the Promenade des Anglais eerily deserted, only the occasional superyacht to be seen in the bay, for those with the means to enjoy self-isolation on board. The boulangeries, cafés, bars and restaurants are open, all following the guidelines to enable hospitality with due care, and there is a semblance of normality, but sadly the rules do not allow extended rides, even if the gendarmerie seem to be operating with a lighter touch than in the Spring.

We look forward to when we can enjoy the cycling once again; if we had taken it somewhat for granted, we’re now even more appreciative of what this extraordinary region has to offer the cyclist seeking challenging climbs, thrilling descents, stunning scenery of mountain and coast, combined with café culture, healthy cuisine, and a warm welcome.

The visit of the Tour de France in late August offered tremendous spectacle and excitement, and we get to experience it again when L’Étape du Tour takes place on 4th July 2021, revisiting stage 2 of the 2020 tour which took the riders into the Côte d’Azur backcountry and over three iconic climbs, the Col St Martin / Col de la Colmiane, the Col du Turini, and on the return to Nice the Col d’Eze.

Whether you are coming to the Côte d’Azur primarily to cycle, or simply wish to enjoy a bike ride as part of your visit, we invite you to get in touch with us. We look forward to riding with you in 2021.

It just doesn’t get any better than this…

We savour our last bite of pain au chocolat, down our espressos, jump on our bikes and leave the market square, and in less than a minute we’re spinning along the coast between Nice and Monaco towards Italy. The deep blue Mediterranean is on our right, cliffs tower above us to our left…this is where the Alps, having described a massive arc taking in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France, finally plunge into the warm sea.

We’ll tackle a 1,250m alpine climb later in the day, but for now the road rolls gently around the coastal contours. The sun warms bare arms, fresh sea air fills our lungs. The anticipation of an epic day on the bike.

My companion pulls alongside, looks at me with the widest grin, and says:

It just doesn’t get any better than this.”
